Name of Our Nation
In the very 1st article of the Constitution, the name of our nation is mentioned as 'India, that is Bharat'. But in
some official documents issued by the government, the name is mentioned as 'The Union of India'. In some other official
documents issued by the government, the name is mentioned as 'Republic of India'. Such inconsistency should be brought to an end on the priority basis.
Why is the name of our nation still India, which was assigned by the former British rulers, even after 70 years of independence ? We have changed the names of some of our cities like Bombay to Mumbai, Madras to Chennai, Calcutta to Kolkata. But when shall we change from India to Bhaarat (भारत) ? I have purposely spelled 'aa' so to differentiate from a person's name with single 'a', i.e. Bharat (भरत). We even see that the names of our High Courts continue to be named after the old names of cities, even if the names of respective cities were changed many years ago. I suggest that all such names be changed.
